A lovely message from Holy Saviour's Church, Tynemouth

Dear Enid,

Just to thank you again for organising last night's concert at Holy Saviours'  church. Several people at church this morning commented on how much they had enjoyed it. Interestingly too were those who would have liked to come but had been to see a musical produced by the pupils of Kings Priory school at the school last night.

I do hope that you might consider paying us a return visit  on an evening when there is less musical competition.

I've attached a short article which I will put into the next church magazine.

If you could email me a photograph from your husband , I would like to attach that to the article. Thanks again and enjoy your singing.

I would like to send a thank you note to Ed but do not have a contact address for him . Perhaps therefor you could pass on my thanks to him.

Best wishes Linda

Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir’s Spring Choral Celebration on Saturday March 29th.

The audience for the end of term concert by the Sage Chamber Choir enjoyed an evening of wonderful music.  Despite the unseasonably cold weather, we were warmed by their passion and enthusiasm.  In a very varied programme, we heard songs from Gibbons, Greig, Tchaikovsky and Macmillan amongst others.  The expertise of the choir, which was conducted by  Edward Milner, the head of Music Learning at the Sage, created singing of the highest calibre.. The piano and organ music of Jenny Martins was delightful and added to the enjoyment in a very special evening.  We hope that they will come back again and enjoy the welcome and acoustics of Holy Saviour’s.

The choir generously donated all the ticket money to the church.

From Simon

Dear All

Adam and I have been asked by a friend of mine whether or not we can get together a small choir to take part in a fundraising concert in late May. He knew of our involvement with the Chamber Choir having heard our concerts in the past. The fundraising is for the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in Jerusalem. This is an eye hospital that provides services for all the population of the West bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem of whatever background. It’s a much needed facility but relies on charitable funds to provide the services.http://www.stjohneyehospital.org/

The concert is planned for 16th May 2014 in St Nicholas’ Church, Durham (the church in the Market Place). We were asked to put together a short programme of between 20 and 30 minutes as part of a larger programme.

Adam and I wondered if there were enough of the chamber choir members who might be available on that night to help us out. Depending on the interest we can then think about the programme. We already have a potential accompanist, if needed.

If you would like to join in could you let either Adam or I know either by email (adamnicholshome@yahoo.co.uk orsimon.priestley@btinternet.com ) or at choir over the next couple of weeks.

Many thanks

Simon

Bruges accommodation information again

From Roland:

All

This year I have the job of looking at hotels. Below are details for two hotels which Nicky has given the ‘thumbs up’, are central and which still have plenty of rooms and are offering the choir very attractive group rates which are competitive for Bruges in August: the IBIS Brugge Centrum and the Hotel Cordoeanier. Please check them out – and see how much you will save compared with booking direct.

If you want the group rate (and want to help others get the group rate) we have to submit all the rooms as one reservation (ie not all separate bookings). I will do this so please let me know your preferred hotel, room type and names. If you don’t want me to know who you’re sharing with of course you can either book direct or you can just say ‘and guest’; but we will find out anyway, unless you prefer to book a hotel away from everyone else which of course anyone is free to do.

Note the IBIS has only doubles and twins; the 2 star Cordoeanier has a 3 night minimum for the group rate but it also has rooms for 3 & 4 people which can work out quite cheap if you take ear plugs and are prepared to share with close friends and queue for the bathroom.

Some people will be going on Thursday and returning Monday.

We need 15 at the IBIS and 20 at the Cordoeanier to get the discount. I will use my discretion when to place the bookings – so please email soon – or let me know if there is a reason why you want me to wait a short time (eg to persuade the boss / wife / husband to give you a day off or to persuade someone in altos or tenors to share a room with you) which I will do if there are still lots of rooms available. Also below is the list of definite and possible Bruges singers so if you want to share a room with someone you can see who else is going and approach as you wish.

Regards

Roland
