music for rehearsal 28th April

Dates, concerts and Brugues - please reply

Term Dates:

This term's dates are 28th April - 21st July inclusive.

Our concert is on 6th July and there are two bank holiday Mondays before then when rehearsals will not be on, therefore we are thinking that we could pull forward a couple of the rehearsal dates that fall after the concert, to non-Mondays earlier in the term.  So please could you reply and let us know whether you could attend rehearsals on:

Wednesday 7th May or Friday 9th May
Wednesday 4th June or Friday 6th June
Wednesday 25th June or Thursday 26th June or Friday 27th June

If we can arrange two dates from the ones above that suit most of the choir then we will have the final rehearsal of the term on 7th July which will probably be a pre-Bruges rehearsal.

Summer Concert:

Just so we can check numbers please can you reply and confirm whether you will be able to sing in the summer concert which will be:
Sunday 6th July, 7pm at All Saint's Church, Gosforth.

Bruges:

Plans are getting finalised for singing venues and a restaurant for the Saturday night.  Once again, so we can check numbers please can you reply and confirm whether you will be coming along for the fun! (16th and 17th August)

Future concerts:

We are keen to plan future concerts where we can be hopeful of good (in number!) audiences.  Our thoughts are that these are probably at venues that either:
  • Run a programme of concerts, or a music festival, that is planned well in advance and attract a regular & loyal following,
or
  • are known to choir members who are able to drum up plenty of local support.
We would therefore be very grateful for any suggestions from choir of any venues that might fall into either (or both) of these categories.  And indeed any other suggestions for audience filled venues!!

Thank you all

Champs and Ed

Poetic Chopin

Mario Venzago  conductor

Alexej Gorlatch  piano

Royal Northern Sinfonia

WEBER  Overture: Der Freischütz

CHOPIN  Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor

+++

JOHN CASKEN  Maharal Dreaming

SIBELIUS  Symphony No. 7 in C

As Sibelius’s symphonic journey drew to a close, it grew ever more remarkable.  His final symphony was something completely different: a single-movement epic of just twenty minutes, a work whose compactness seemed to encapsulate everything the composer had achieved to date.  Sibelius might not have known it, but his Seventh’s big tune – now on a soaring trombone – was his farewell to the symphony.  Preceding that, Chopin’s sparkling second piano concerto, Weber’s sharp-shooting overture and a short piece from John Casken.

Each chorus member is entitled to two complimentary tickets.  The position within the hall of these complimentary tickets is entirely at the discretion of the Ticket Office Manager.

Please collect these yourself, directly from ticket office by telling them your name and that you are a member of the Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia.  Please do not email me or Emma requesting tickets, we are unable to pass these requests on.  If possible please try and avoid the ticket office in the busy half-hour period running up to the concert.

Subject: Beethoven - extra singers
Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2014 13:43:45 +0000

Dear Chorus,

Alan mentioned at the first Beethoven rehearsal about the need for more singers to join this project.

Just to clarify – we need experienced singers with strong voices who are good sight readers and have stamina for this exciting performance.

We are looking specifically for tenors, basses and sopranos.  I know some of you have mentioned already you know singers who would be able to do it.  Can you therefore contact them with the dates below and if they can definitely do this then please send me their name so I can add them to the register and we look forward to seeing them on the 27th April.

Please see below for the schedule.

From Pam - singing opportunity

Hi there all

I'm doing a wedding at All Saints Gosforth on 6th June (Fri) @ 12p.m. The couple would like a choir but the church choir can't manage it and I wondered if we could get together an ensemble to sing for them? They want 'All you need is love' (Beatles & Love Actually, I believe!) and I've managed to source a SATB version which we could sing a cappela or with the organist (more chance of 'hamming it up' on our own?). There's also 3 hymns (one to Danny Boy!)
I know they've already paid £160 for a choir so we could, I'm sure, get that and, after travel expenses it could go into our coffers!
It would be really helpful if you could let me know as soon as possible if we have a viable group so that I can tell the couple ....and the church! Please reply to pam.swift@live.co.uk.

Hope you're enjoying the Easter break.

From Simon re concert on 10th May

Dear all
Yes it’s that time of year again. Durham Choral Society’s Spring Concert is on Saturday May 10th at 7 30pm. It’s an interesting programme of two works commissioned from local composers, and a veteran piece in Vivaldi’s Gloria. Some of you may have heard the Todd piece before but the Lang will be new for this concert and is a setting of various Durham/Northumbria folk tunes. The latter has been an interesting sing and we look forward to the complete work with soloists, Northumbrian pipes, fiddle and orchestra. Subject to other important events not intervening there should be a piece about the Lang on BBC Look North tomorrow night.

If you interested in having a ticket then let any of the DCS members in the choir ( Adam, Jane Jean T and me) know. Sorry no discount available through choir members!

Hope that we might see you there. It should be a memorable evening
All the best
Simon
