St George's Jesmond Programme

St George's Jesmond Programme

Dear All,

There are some worries about the weighting of the concert. I've applied the timings so you can see, we may well sing the Tchaik and Marcato may well trim theirs down a bit.

Enid and I went to the church today and it has a very exciting acoustic.

All good!

For Sunday 1st July Singers, from Enid

Dear all,

Thanks to those who have signed up to sing on Sunday at All Saints' Gosforth.  Below are the details, so if you are not taking part, you need read no further (unless you think you might be able to come after all!}.

Date and time:  Sunday 1st July, meet at 1.20 at the church, sing from 2.00.  Once we have sung in the church, we can probably sing again either in the hall or outside if the weather is fine.
Venue: All Saints' Church, West Avenue, Gosforth, NE3 4ES.  It is off Gosforth High Street, along the road from Trinity Church where we sang last summer.
Dress: black with a splash
Repertoire: some or all of the following:

Bennet - All Creatures Now
Elgar - As Torrents in Summer
Elgar -The Shower
Byrd - Ave Verum
Tchaikovsky - Dostoino est
Kodaly - Esti dal
Kodaly - Turot eszik
Passereau - Il est bel et bon
Byrd - Sing Joyfully
Parsons - Ave Maria
Bruckner - Locus iste
Finzi - My Spirit sang all day

Name:  Can you think of a name for our little group?  I shall make a sign to display when we sing, explaining that we are all members of SGCC.

Have I missed anything out?  Do let me know.

There will be a flower festival in the church and an art and craft display in the hall.  If the weather is fine, I think activities on the church green are being planned.  Refreshments are being served in the hall as well.

Looking forward to a good sing on Sunday afternoon.

Readers Licencing Service - Newcastle Cathedral [14.00hrs] Saturday 6th October 2012

Readers Licencing Service - Newcastle Cathedral [14.00hrs] Saturday 6th October 2012

Once a year there is a special service at Newcastle Cathedral to licence new Readers in the diocese. This year it will take place at [14.00hrs] on Saturday 6th October. This service is 'light' and presided over by the Bishop of Newcastle and organised by Sue Hart who is a member of the Central Readers' Council - and a friend of mine. For the last 3 years she has asked me to organise a choir - this has been great fun and the space is superb to sing in. This year I would like Ed to direct us - and widen the invitation to the whole choir. We will have access to the organ and organist - but in previous years the hosts have really appreciated our acappella singing.

Last year we sang The Lord is my Shepherd by Goodall (Vicar of Dibley theme tune - I asked and the cathedral paid for the music) as well as other pieces we have done before. We will probably sing from the front before the start for 5 - 10 minutes then, from the back, have 3 anthem slots plus an Amen or similar at the end. All pieces will be our choice (subject to very general suitability - Sue Hart is a real fan of our sound)

Lunch will be provided and I will negotiate a fee for the choir which I suggest we split between Ed and our choir fund

Please let me know by email (rht@villagecourt.freeserve.co.uk) if you would like to take part

An invitation from Felicity.....

Everyone is very welcome to come for drinks and food at my house after the concert at St. George's, Jesmond on July 7th.

 My address is:
10 Mistletoe Road,  NE2 2DX     -  which is  about 5 minutes on foot from the church.

Parking is at a premium in Jesmond (nearly all permit only) so if you can, it would probably be best to leave your car where you parked it for the concert.  I'll explore other possibilities and let you know.

Meanwhile, I'd be grateful if you could let me know if you (and partner/ friends/relations) will be coming.

More information later!

Monday 11 June 2012

Well folks here we go! John Benjamin Milner (known as Ben) was born on Tuesday 5 June at 12.22pm, weighing a whopping 9lbs2oz. Helen was absolutely brilliant (after 16 or so hours of labour...) and is healthy and well, and we were all home by 7pm Tuesday night.

He's a cracking lad and can't wait to meet you all, and Arianne is delighted to be a big sister.

Ed

(PS from Nicky: don't forget we are in St Mary's Church this evening)
