Annie!
Dear All,
A group in Stocksfield, Northumberland, are producing Annie in the Autumn 2011 and are looking for a man to play the part of Rooster, as well as men for the chorus.
Rooster is the villain of the piece; he and his girlfriend try to kidnap Annie by posing as her parents, in order to claim a large reward. The part is not large, but includes the song Easy Street. The group need a gentleman between the ages of 18 and 40ish to fill the role.
The group can fit in rehearsals to one evening in the week. As the actual week of the show nears, there will be more rehearsals. The dates of the production are 23rd-26th November for 4 evenings.
If you are interested, or have any more questions please contact Joy Pusey at joy@pusey.entadsl.com
and please let everyone / anyone know.Ed

Song for Marion
An interesting opportunity. It's not something for the whole choir, but you might be interested as individuals:
We are looking for a variety of people/ choirs to be involved with the new feature film 'Song for Marion' and was wondering if you could help?
We are looking for PEOPLE TO STAR IN THE FILM alongside Vanessa Redgrave (ATONEMENT), Terence Stamp (SUPERMAN), Gemma Arterton (PRINCE OF PERSIA) and Christopher Eccleston (DOCTOR WHO)!
It would be fantastic if you could spread the word/ bring a group as everyone from the production is eager for as many people who have a passion for choir singing, music and the arts in the North East, to help create the rich texture the film is striving for. We are particularly looking for Choirs to perform/ be part of the audience so if that is you please enter your first and second name as 'CHOIR' using the online application form and we will call you directly.
And if people aren't in a choir but still want to take part we have lots of days when we need people and anyone who would like to be involved can register their interest online and find available dates at: www.songformarion.com. You will receive an information pack within the next 7 days.
We're really looking forward to meeting you!
Kind regards
Karl, Hannah and Ileana

Message from Ed
Well Done All!
Thank you to one and all for our first major concert, with interval, with soloist, with pianist... with audience!
That was the biggest thing we have ever done. We have learnt and performed more music in one term than we have ever done before and every one of you has risen to the challenge. You sang really well, with real choral and musical highlights (with many of the audience citing different one). Thank you.
Special thanks must go to our Rachel Dyson (what a voice), Jenny Martin (beautiful playing on a dodgy keyboard - especially harpsichord!) and everyone who helped out - Beth printing programmes, Nicky's family and Liz on the door, Mary for her marvelous party, people doing weird jobs for me 10 mins before going on...
Our huge thanks must go to our extraordinary, unstoppable, untouchable Champions! Nicky, Enid and Jamie have worked tirelessly behind the scenes (venue, programmes, rehearsals, communications, audience development etc etc etc) but in particular have created our the wonderful new banner. That banner is going to go everywhere with us for ever (until I leave it in a pub in Amsterdam).
So now we know we can do it, maybe we should do it again. Let the Champions know your thoughts. And if you have photos, stories, anecdotes, we want to have them!
The Future!
Obviously we have Amsterdam (and we are so looking forward to that), but I would love to know your music thoughts for the Autumn 2011 and Spring 2012. We have concerts set up (and Enid will let us know details about these) so drop me a line with your creative ideas. I can't promise to include all suggestions, but it would be great to have your thoughts.
Thanks again one and all. If you're coming to the Dam, see you tomorrow. Otherwise, have a wonderful Summer and looking forward to singing with you in September.

Saturday's Practical Details
Dear All,
Here are the practical details for Saturday.
Please be at the church ready to sing for 16:00 (and no later). We will be joined by Jenny at 17:15 and then Rachel at 17:45. The choir will then have a break from 18:00 (when Rachel and Jenny will rehearse), and the concert starts at 19:00. We should be all done by 21:00 and then it's round to Mary's for a well deserved drink (and some food).
Please wear black with a splash of colour for the concert and remember your black folder. You will need water for supping, and an emergency pencil. We will bring spares for music, but please do check all your music and put it in order beforehand. The programmes will be for audience first so please do bring an order of concert, and we will print up some snazzy programmes for you to remember it all by afterwards.
That's it I think! Look after your voice during the week please. Not a good time to take up smoking or for yelling at the bairns (get someone else to do it) and remember to get lots and lots of lovely sleep.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Ed

Saturday!
Thanks all for such a great rehearsal. We are very excited about Saturday. The practical details will follow, but in the meantime here's the information I promised to help us all sell this gig. Pick and choose!
The Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir is singing on Saturday 23 July at Trinity Church, Gosforth, with the local young soprano Rachel Dyson.
Rachel Dyson (29) is from Morpeth and is studying with the wonderful Geordie English National Opera Bass soloist Graeme Danby. As well as developing her singing career, Rachel works as Project Leader for The Sage Gateshead CoMusica programme. Rachel has performed in many exciting venues including Wembley Stadium, York Minster and St. Mark’s in Venice but is always delighted to be asked to sing in the North East. Recent performances have included the 21st George Walker Last Night of the Proms in Newcastle, Colombina in Lusvardi’s Colombo Tutto Tondo in Galway, the title role in Sullivan’s Patience at the Buxton Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, her first Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata in Leeds, touring with Heritage Opera’s production of Die Fledermaus and the soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah for Guisborough Choral Society. Rachel is a young talent on the up and has to be heard to be truly appreciated.
Here’s Rachel in the Journal: http://tinyurl.com/3jsubb3
The Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir (http://tsgcc.blogspot.com/) is part of the organisation’s brimming Adult Programme and is made up of 40 enthusiastic singers from across the region. We sing a whole range of music from very ancient (including a French peasant madrigal about men being cuckolded) to right up to date (including a fabulous 7 part Ave Maria for male voices by Biebl), and aim for singing to really high standard whilst having a good time. In the concert the choir will be performing in any number of parts, accompanied by Jenny Martins (who plays for lots of local choirs, including The Sage Gateshead’s own Quay Voices and Philharmonic Voices).
The choir is directed by Ed Milner. Ed is from the north east and is Head of Young Musicians Programme at The Sage Gateshead. He has worked with many choirs, and believes passionately that everyone has a voice to sing with. Ed studied at Sheffield and Newcastle and has played classical violin, fiddle and French horn in his time. Singing however is his first love. Ed is an experienced choral conductor; he has prepared choirs for performances of the Little Match Girl Passion (Lang) and for the BBC Free Thinking Festival. Ed is Head of Young Musician’s Programme at The Sage Gateshead. Ed loves working with the Chamber Choir; the first rehearsal 6 years ago consisted of Ed, 2 altos and a bass and he is very proud of the 40 singers who now regularly attend and sing together so passionately.
Jenny Martins is originally from Keighley, West Yorkshire and came to Newcastle to study Music in 2004. Since graduating she has worked all over the North East as a freelance musician. Jenny currently teaches the piano as well as working with several local choirs including Quay Voices, Streetwise choir, Philharmonic Voices, Northern Praeclassica and the newly established Femme Chorale. Jenny also accompanies regularly for soloists at all the local universities and performs with the chamber ensembles Sirocco Sextet and Newcastle Sinfonietta.
We are hoping for a really lovely summer concert wt a great crowd, and there is fizzy wine and strawberries in the interval.
7pm, Saturday 23 July, Trinity Church Gosforth High Street, £8/£4
