The Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir: Part of The Sage Gateshead’s renowned Learning and Participation Programme, the mixed choir numbers 30 singers from across the north east of England led by their director Ed Milner. We meet weekly to rehearse and perform a broad range of accompanied and a cappella, secular and sacred repertoire from around the world, with particular emphasis on the unusual and unexpected. As well as more familiar works, examples of repertoire include Palestrina Masses, a deep interest in the sacred music of Byrd (and the English pre-reformation) and Vittoria, and repertoire by Lauridsen, Whitacre, Bortniansky and Orban. The Choir performs regularly to enthusiastic audiences at venues around the region, and has toured Prague, Krakow, Barcelona and Paris. It is an active, social group that enjoys a musical challenge. The Sage Gateshead is an international home for music and musical discovery, bringing about a widespread and long-term enrichment of the musical life of the North East of England.
