Service of 9 Lessons & Carols at St Mary's, Longframlington - Wednesday 17th December

Hi All

Service of 9 Lessons & Carols at St Mary's, Longframlington - Wednesday 17th December @ 7:30pm

Please send me an email (steven.buckley@talk21.com) if you are able to once again supplement my little choir with your fantastic singing!

It'll be the same deal as previous years - 4 straightforward choir pieces, the rest are standard carols (with descants if we have enough sops), then down the road to the Angler's Arms for a post service drink!

I'll send the music out soon.

As you're all so competent, only one rehearsal required and a warm-up on the night.  No big deal if you can't make the rehearsal, so long as you can take a look at the music before the service and make the warm-up. Dates and times as follows:

 Rehearsal - Friday 12th December @ 7:30pm

Rehearsal and Service - Wednesday 17th December meet @ 6:00pm at the church for last rehearsal before service @ 7:30pm

 Many Thanks!

Tonight

Dear All,

Leo the youngest has some sort of terrible hacking / leaking bottom thing so we've been up all night. Working today means that I would be simply no use tonight so Enid is kindly leading. If you're singing on Saturday, please can you prioritise tonight? Enid will be getting everything shipshape.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday,

 Ed

FREE tickets to ECHO: Body of Song tomorrow for Chamber Choir

Hello, our World War One Centenary concerts continue at 4pm on Sunday 9th November with a very special commission, ECHO: Body of Song and comps are available for staff and their family and friends.

Body of Song is a truly fitting reflection of war, with a fascinating story, a world of musical diversity, a snapshot of the diverse musical aesthetic and a shared European reflection on peace and conflict past, present and future.

Presented by renowned baritone, Sir Thomas Allen, ECHO: Body of Song, marks the outbreak of WW1 with new choral works that explore the theme of peace and conflict through the human voice.  Performed by the Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia, Custom Voices, Voices of Hope and Sage Gateshead’s own youth choir Quay Voices.

In the words of Sir Thomas Allen: “Whether we remain aware of it or not, to a greater or lesser degree, the importance of the year 2014 is very significant in our lives.  This most awful of wars, the war to end all wars, is especially significant as it gave rise to some of the most touching and moving poetry in our language, and some of the most deeply poignant songs.”
“Its resonances continue, the story goes on, and out of the darkness comes beauty and inspirational writing of music prose and verse.   After all the horrors, in just the same way as the most vivid and beautiful of red flowers appeared in thousands on what had been a place of utmost ugliness, words and music do indeed have the power of healing.”

One of the works, ‘Papillon’ composed by Catherine Kontz and performed by the Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia is based on a collection of letters which were found in a cellar.  The letters are between members of one family (5 sons, 1 daughter and their parents) and were written during WW1.  Four of the sons fought in the war and some of their letters were written from the trenches.  It is a very personal insight into war, with all the worries of parents who haven’t heard from their sons and then hearing first-hand how dreadful the conditions really were.

Many colleagues are performing so it will also be a great opportunity to support them so tell your friends and family and come along on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

Contact Ticket Office to get your tickets now (unlimited but on a first come, first served basis).

Body of Song event at Sage Gateshead on Sunday 9th November

As you know we are singing on the concourse of The Sage as part of this event on 9th November.

I can confirm that we have been given the first slot after the 2 minutes silence so are scheduled to sing between 11.02 and 11.30am.

I can imagine we will meet about 10.20am,  ready to start warming up at 10.30am and then get into position before 11.00am, but will confirm exact times and where to meet nearer the time.

Also, as a perk of taking part:
you can take advantage of a special 2-4-1 ticket offer on tickets for the Body of Song Concert in Hall 1 which follows your performances, at 4pm.  Tickets are only £5 anyway, so you can see the concert for just £2.50 each with this offer!  The concert features 5 choirs - Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia, Quay Voices, Human Music, Custom Voices and Voices of Hope, alongside a chamber ensemble from Royal Northern Sinfonia, and compere Sir Thomas Allen.

Useful website - from Julie

I thought Chamber Choir might find this website useful. It was recommended by The Sixteen for practising ahead of their forthcoming workshop. There's a great Facebook Group too. Loads of useful stuff.

As part of the Sage Gateshead 10th birthday celebrations, the adult and silver programmes have been given the 20th December '14 as a slot for putting on music.
We are one of the groups/choirs who have been invited to sing on the concourse that day. At the moment we don't have details of times etc but it would be great if we could find out who would be able to sing.
So please could you reply to this message and let us know if you can make it on the 20th December.  Thank you

A message from Ruth that Ed would like to share with you

Dear Ed,

I've really enjoyed singing with Chamber Choir for the past few years, especially the Cambridge trip last summer.  And also your 'leadership' and the way you take our rehearsals.

I've decided to have a break from it for a while.. we're in a new phase as our youngest leaves home this autumn.

My husband has done 'Step into singing' for a year and is now confident to join a choir himself, so we've joined Andrew Scott's 'Flotsam' which we can do together. So rather a different repertoire!

So - Thank you.  We'll try to get along to the Christmas concert and say hello to everyone then.

best wishes for the year.

From Steve about this Saturday (27th) at Brinkburn

I've been asked to get a small choir together to support the singing at a Christening at Brinkburn.  The format on the day is straightforward enough - I'll play some music while guests arrive and your job is simply to lead the singing of the hymns (which are listed below).  All the tunes are well known and I'm happy for people to sing either unison or harmony - whichever you prefer.  I'll bring some hymn books down from church, but please also bring your own if you have them (Hymns Old & New).

As you're singing in the choir, you can get into Brinkburn for free and the family have offered to make a donation to the church, which I can use for buying some choir music.

We can do a run through on the day before the service - I suggest we are down there and ready to sing for 10:45.  The service starts at 11:30.

Dress wise, I suggest we just wear whatever you would normally wear for a Christening - no need to colour coordinate.  We are invited to stay for drinks afterwards too!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Drop me an email (steven.buckley@talk21.com) if you think you can make it.

Hymns are:

Morning has broken

Be still, for the presence of the lord

Lord of all hopefulness

Amazing Grace

Thanks

Steve
