CreateChoral

Dear All,

Here's the details about this project. I think that it is going to be something very exciting to be involved in and very new for us.

As part of the Festival of the North East, Kathryn Tickell has concieved Create Choral. The aim of the project is to work with composers and choirs to create new choral repertoire deriving from the folk music of the north east of England. Kathryn will give 6 emerging composers a folk melody as inspiration, and they will work with 6 choirs to create 6 new pieces. Two more established composers will create pieces for massed choirs and all of the pieces will be performed in one concert.

We will be one of the choirs, and so after Easter we will work with a composer on a piece. We will perform it with all the others on the evening of 22 June in the Great Hall at the Discovery Museum. There will of course be an afternoon rehearsal.

The 6 choirs are:
Femme Chorale (Simon Fidler)
Quay Lads (Matt Beckingham)
Quay Lasses (Mark Anyan)
The Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir (Ed Milner)
Tynedale Community Choir (Kat Davidson)
Voices of Hope (Simon Fidler)

This should be a fascinating experience for us all - mixing with other choirs performing new music. Our involvement will obviously affect preparation for our summer concert (the Bach seems a bit worrying in this context...) but I have some ideas about that too.

I will update you as soon as everything is confirmed and I look forward to introducing you to our composer!

Ed
