Chamber Choir Summer trip

Dear all,

We are undecided where to hold our 2013 summer trip and would like your thoughts on a couple of options.

The dates are likely to be in the summer school holidays and probably around the weekend of the 17/18 August.

We really need a venue that is likely to be busy with tourists  has interesting potential singing venues and allows for those that are short of time (including Ed) to arrive on the Friday pm and leave on the Sunday pm.  Extreme summer heat  does not suit everyone as well.

We have done lots of research on flights out of the North East and concluded that destinations with the right flights in terms of times and price and  that we haven't visited already are few and far between - probably limited to Cork and Palma. (Palma is likely to be too hot in August so that is out).

So we think there are two options:

Pay more for flights e.g SAS flying to Copenhagen is showing £250 for return journey (before any extras they may charge for) and I notice this morning there are only 4 seats left outward a that price, so very soon the costs will be more. (Choir's payment of Ed's costs would go up as well with this option)

or

Stay more local and make our trip OK based - suggestions being London or Cambridge.  Ed has some contacts which MAY get us some good venues but we haven't started that process yet so no guarantees.

Please can you let me (Nicky, via the gmail account or my own email - just reply to this email if easier)  have your thoughts on these options ASAP and if you have any other suggestions that will fit our criteria then please do let me know.

Many thanks

Chamber Choir Concert date - IMPORTANT

We MAY have to change the date of our end of term concert.  It will now be either on Saturday 23rd March or Saturday 16th March.

Please could you reply to this email ASAP and confirm your ability to attend, or not,  on each of these dates.

Thank you

Anna at the footie.......

Dear All,

You may remember that a note came round about singing carols before the footie at St James Park. Well look! There's our new(ish) soprano Anna in the silly white hat just to the top left of the words QPR.

Looks wet mind..................

Ask her about the experience if you want.

Ed

Hall 1 Brahms

Dear All,

You know how much I um and ah about what recordings to share with you. I always want to share things with you, but often performances are just that - performances - and relistening doesn't engage the emotions like the live experience did.

That said, maybe I'm a bit of a fascist about it and need to let go a bit. With that in mind, I wanted to share this with you. It's a film of us singing Geistliches Lied in Hall 1 in December and I do think it's really rather good. It's always challening to get a real sense of what a piece sounds like when singing in the choir so hopefully this will help you gain some of external experience that Lesley and Nicola told us about.

Do let me / each know your thoughts and be proud of some really lovely singing.

Ed

Clarinettist needed!

Ken in the basses needs a good clarinet player for the week 11- 16th Feb to play for St Andrew's Operatic Society's production of The Grand Duke by Gilbert and Sullivan.  The production takes place in Roker, Sunderland and there will be a fee payable.

If the whole week is not possible then 13th & 14th would be acceptable (he does have someone who can do the rest).  But he would prefer someone for the whole week.  Music is available beforehand if needed.

Dear All,

As we hand some music out, we need to collect some in.

O Magnum Mysterium (Lauridsen) - its not Christmas
Sleep (Whitacre) - it is put to sleep
Turbot Escik and Esti Dal (Kodaly) - they belong to other groups

If you've sadly lost a copy, Beth will let you know the charge!

Thanks,

Ed
