The Young Musicians Programme (YMP) offers an exciting range of opportunities for young people to engage in musical activities. The YMP Summer Festival celebrates the wealth of talent from across the different programmes and showcases an exciting mix of genres ranging from classical to jazz, from steel pans to choirs. There will be various concerts throughout the day. YMP Festival: Young Musicians Programme Juniors Northern Rock Foundation Hall 11.30am - 12.30pm Kicking off our Young Musicians Programme Summer Festival, this first concert features our Children’s Choir, Open Studio ‘Root Position’ group and younger students and ensembles from the Weekend School. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Summer Strings Northern Rock Foundation Hall 1pm – 1.45pm This concert features predominantly string players and ensembles from the Weekend School, as well as an exciting collaboration between Weekend School and the final year Foundation Studio students before they progress on to other parts of the Programme. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Young Sinfonia Chamber Players Northern Rock Foundation Hall 2pm - 2.30pm Players from Young Sinfonia, our prestigious youth orchestra, present a varied programme of chamber music perfect for a summer’s day. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Rhythm Explosion! Hall Two 3pm - 3.45pm Rhythm Nation, our open-access percussion ensemble, will perform an energetic mix of songs, and will be joined by various percussion students from the Weekend School. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Weekend School Concert 1 Northern Rock Foundation Hall 3.30pm - 5pm The first of two concerts showcasing the breadth of talent from students and small ensembles at the Weekend School; our Centre for Advanced Training here at The Sage Gateshead. Tickets: £2 Performances on the Concourse 5pm – 5.15pm Weekend School ensembles and solo spots YMP Festival: Bands Hall Two 5.30pm – 6.15pm Two ensembles from the Weekend School, Rocket Science and The Wright Idea, will perform a selection of jazz, popular and commercial music. Joining them will be a band from our Open Studio Programme. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Weekend School Concert 2 Northern Rock Foundation Hall 5.15pm – 7.15pm Second concert showcasing students and small ensembles. Tickets: £2 YMP Festival: Young Musicians Celebration Concert Hall Two 7.30pm – 9.30pm To conclude the YMP Summer Festival, this prestigious concert showcases the very highest quality young musicians from across the region. This is a great chance to catch some of the finest musical talents of the future and celebrate their achievements and successes this year.
