July Audiences

Dear All,

This July we have three great performances to look forward to - a public performance in Hall 2, a fairly informal sing in Gibside and our very own big, shiny concert in Trinity Church, Gosforth.

It is always best to have nice big crowds to sing to, so please do help us to drive up audiences. The champions will be in touch soon about the 23rd July Gosforth concert, but in the meantime on 3rd July we are singing as part of a larger concert, so let's please make sure that we all have a full house to sing to. This is our chance to show off in our own building, so please do drive people to the Box Office if necessary!

Here's a flyer, which I will send round as a picture soon enough.

Thanks!

Ed

Outstanding Concert!

We are delighted to welcome Alex Chien to The Sage Gateshead on Friday 1 July .

This exceptionally talented 13 year old pianist is taking a break from his international tours to play a one-off solo concert in Hall 2.

Alex has recently won the first prize in the 2010 Young Artist Competition of Diablo Symphony Orchestra and performed with the California Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYS) at the Flint Center of Cupertino, California.

In this special performance, Alex will perform a piano recital including works by Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

Get along if you can - it's sure to be special!

Hungarian

A BIG thank you to Klára Morvai for spending so much of her precious time with us at our rehearsal last night.  It was fascinating (and moving) to hear about the importance of Kodaly's pieces and the Hungarian musical traditions.   Whilst we could not pretend to be anyway fluent yet, Klára has however given us an excellent start for Esti Dal and Turot Eszik.  We hope to do her proud.

Here is the photo of the white board from last night and we will send the recording of Klára reading the text  to the choir by email .

Purcell - Sopranos and Altos

We are doing really well with our Purcell rehearsals before Chamber Choir on Mondays however we thought it might be a good idea to propose that we split the half hour session in two - focusing on Evening Hymn first and then Sound the Trumpet.  This way any alto's who feel that the former is just too high for them can opt out of the first half of the session (no shame in that - Evening Hymn is set for a very high voice and it is not a surprise that it is challenging some alto's!).

Hungarian Lesson

Dear All,

A Hungarian colleague of Douglas', Klára Morvai, will be joining us on Monday to fine-tune our pronounciations of the Kodaly numbers........................................

Klara, like all Hungarians, is an avid and confident choral singer and is well aware of the pieces, so it should be fun. If you interested in the Kodaly singing Method as used across Hungary and in various centres across the world, please click here.

Let's please have a great attendance so that we don't have to try and relearn anything later!

Thanks,

Ed
