First Chamber Choir rehearsal this Monday......

Just a reminder (and a test to see if all the choir get this notification, as I now have the Chamber Choir Google Group sorted - at last - I hope!) that our first rehearsal is this Monday, the 9th May.

Also a reminder to put the 23rd July in your diary as this is our BIG concert of the year (as well as our performances at The Sage of course) - at Trinity Church, Gosforth.  We are hoping for a really good turn out so start spreading the word....more about this and our other concerts in weeks to come....

Brahms Concert this Saturday for Maggie's Cancer Unit

On this Saturday May 7th a chamber choir drawn mainly from the Northern Sinfonia Chorus, with support from other local groups, is singing in Hexham Abbey at 7.30 pm, to raise money for the new Maggie's Cancer Care Centre, planned for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. 
May 7th was Brahms' birthday and the programme is almost entirely devoted to him: partsongs with piano, (his four quartets Op.92), solo songs, piano music and the German Requiem in its choir and piano-4 hands format. 
Tickets are available at the door - £12 / £6

Mahler Symphony no.10

A welcome return for Britain’s biggest orchestra. Salute Mahler’s centenary with the first performance ever at The Sage Gateshead of his last masterpiece which breathtakingly looks back over a lifetime and into the world beyond. Mahler had only completed the first movement and sketched out the rest of the work at his death, but completed by Derek Cooke and Colin Matthews, this is Mahler at his most powerful. Massed singers from The Sage Gateshead join the 170-strong NYO to unleash the drama and excitement of Judith Weir’s magical ‘We are shadows’.

Includes 6.30pm, pre-concert talk in Hall 1 and choirs performing on the Concourse

Prince Bishop Consort on Sea

Dear Prince Bishop Consort,

Thank you one and all for making such a superb contribution to my party. It was a particular pleasure for me to showcase what we singers can do in front of an audience that for the most part had never heard such music before (my work colleagues, for example).  Thanks too for risking life and limb to clamber over the rail to sing from the boathouse steps – What a great stage they made and what a lovely, cheerful sound we made from them!

Herewith the first of many momentos.

Again, my thanks. I am blessed, indeed, to have you as friends.
